REKS
Lawrence, Massachusetts is a river-bound city infamous for its a heavy crime rate and far-stretching urban sprawl. Beneath its surface however, lurks one of the most extensive and thriving hip-hop scenes in New England. Lawrence is famed for producing countless underground talents such as producer Statik Selektah, emcee Termanology, and Corey Isiah Christie, a former breakdancer better known by his stage name: Reks.
Since the release of his debut album Along Came The Chosen in 2001, Reks has long been a cult fixture of Massachusetts' hip-hop scene, a staple of the mixtape circuit, and a respected alumni of Boston hip-hop label Brick Records. Though Reks has never experienced massive national success, he has earned countless, numerous accolades and press acclaim for his various studio releases. He has gone on to work with hip-hop greats such as Lil Fame, Krumbsnatcha, Big Shug, Skyzoo, Slaine, Action Bronson, Termanology, Styles P, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, and Nottz, as well as earn Boston Music Awards for Album Of The Year (2011's Rhythmatic Eternal King Supreme) and Hip-Hop Artist Of The Year. Further praise has come from respected hip-hop outlets such as The Source, XXL, Vibe, and URB.
With 2014 entering its second half, July nows sees Reks engaging in a collaboration with one of his fellow underground contemporaries: the acclaimed Queens, NY-based producer Hazardis Soundz. The two have pooled their creative efforts into a unique rap concept album, Eyes Watching God, showcasing a contrast between good and evil, featuring songs that hop just as quickly between benevolent and sinister tones just as quickly. The visual centerpiece of the compact disc release is its dual-lenticular cover, featuring Reks' appearance changing from "good" to "evil" when viewed from different angles. Featuring lyrics by Reks and production by Hazardis Soundz, and guest contributions from N.O.R.E., Termanology, Saigon, Knowledge Medina, and many more.
Eyes Watching God is now shipping on compact disc from Traffic Entertainment Group!
